As a professional website designer, I have a habit of going to websites to get ideas and trends, etc.  Sometimes I am horrified at what I see.

Last night I stumbled upon a website for a restaurant in the area.  I had the speakers of my computer on, which is something I don't typically do.  Within a few seconds, I was scraping myself from the ceiling.  My wife just looked at me and said "What was THAT?"  I couldn't get the sound off quick enough.

Once I settled down, I noticed the poor design.  It had a background of a picture, that was repeated hundreds of times in the screen.  The navigation was poor, the site had misspelled words and was just not pleasing.

I scrolled to the bottom to see who designed this site.  It was a "Website in a Can" where you design it yourself for free.  In return, they get to put advertising on your site.

As a professional business, I would think you'd want to represent your company with a solid website.  One that your customers will want to visit.  One that is appealing and informative.  The cost of a website is part of your advertising.  And taken over a period of time is less expensive than other forms of advertising.

So remember, when it comes to free websites, you get what you pay for.
